Humans are wired to consume and remember information.
Back in our caveman days, information was nearly as vital as food and water. The more information you had, the greater your chances of survival.
With the right information, you would know not to eat those juicy berries that are actually poisonous.
With the right information, you’d know which animals you can eat… and which animals can eat you.
We wanted to know things because they helped us stay alive and pass our genes on to the next generation.
But today, we no longer need information just to survive.
In fact, we get too much information.
We get sucked into social media, mindlessly scrolling through our feeds for hours.
We end up watching video after video targeted at us explicitly based on who we follow and what we search for.
We’re always checking our notifications, clicking those provocative or controversial-sounding articles, and generally burning through hours online.
But then, if you wrench yourself away from it for even a little bit (either intentionally or accidentally, like losing your phone), you get anxious.
Anxious about being disconnected from cyberspace. FOMO sets in. You might miss out on that next hit of valuable information!
Sound like you?
I’m not a doctor, but based on what I’ve read about this stuff online, you might be addicted to information.
For better or worse, those social media companies know what they’re doing. They know our brain craves information, and so they oblige and constantly feed it to us.
And they do it in such a scientific manner that we can’t help but go down those Google search rabbit holes or social media threads.
If you’re serious about making money and achieving success, you can’t be doing these things. All that time you spend deep in information is time you could spend taking action.
Now, I’m not just talking about scrolling through 100-tweet long political shouting matches on Twitter.
The same goes for helpful information, too.
Maybe you’re consuming books and podcasts and articles on your chosen pursuit.
Sure, consuming this content is a bit better. And hey, it feels good to learn.
If you tear through a few books and articles every week, your brain likes that. You feel like you’re learning. You’re getting smarter.
But you can read all the educational content you want — it won’t get you anywhere without action.
You’ll continue to get those “feel-good” chemicals in your brain without doing any tangible work.
And eventually, you’ll know everything you need to get started. Any reading or information consumption beyond a certain point isn’t teaching you anything if you’re a beginner at something.
So how do you beat information addiction?
Here’s what I’d try: acknowledge what sucks you into those multi-hour information binges.
Are you scrolling Twitter?
Getting angry at rage bait news articles?
Reading 20 articles about making money online?
Maybe some combination of these?
Once you know what it is, you can take notice every time you reach for the phone or new tab to seek out this information.
Take a quick pause and consider if you really want to hop on Instagram or if you’re simply doing it out of habit.
Even if you go on anyways, at least you paused and thought about it.
From there, you’ll need to build a habit to replace your old info habit.
Maybe, instead of hopping onto social media or Google, you read a few pages of a book, or perhaps you write in a journal for a few minutes.
Whatever it is, revert to this new habit every time you feel the urge to check out more information.
Eventually, your need to get more information might just wither away.
Anyways, I think that’s a simple way to wean yourself off the information firehose.
If you want to learn how to potentially make big profits passively — and not get bombarded with 100 different sources of information…
Then check out my free training video.
In it, I give you plenty of information.
But it’s all focused on one method of making money. You don’t have to continually seek out new trading strategies or other peoples’ opinions.
Not to mention I show you my actual trades, making it easy for you to take action.
And then take action on it!
